APC Leaders in Bakori Adopt Consensus Candidates for 2027 Elections

-

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State have adopted consensus candidates for key elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The decision was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the party leadership in the area, who converged in Katsina for the exercise.

Under the arrangement, Mukhatar Muhammad Dan-Dutse was endorsed as the party’s consensus candidate for the Senate to represent the Funtua Zone. For the House of Representatives seat covering Bakori/Danja Federal Constituency, party leaders settled for Abdullahi Balarabe Dabai, the incumbent representative.

Similarly, Abdurrahman Ahmad Kandarawa emerged as the consensus choice for the Katsina State House of Assembly seat representing Bakori Local Government.

Party officials said the consensus arrangement followed consultations among stakeholders and was aimed at promoting unity and avoiding internal disputes ahead of the party primaries.

The development reflects a broader trend within the APC and other major political parties in Nigeria, where consensus candidacy is often adopted to streamline the nomination process, reduce intra-party contestation, and strengthen electoral chances.

However, such arrangements are typically subject to ratification through the party’s formal primary processes as stipulated by the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and relevant electoral laws.

Reacting to the outcome, party stakeholders in Bakori expressed appreciation to the APC leadership for facilitating the agreement, describing it as a step toward ensuring cohesion and electoral success in the area.

They also expressed optimism that the decision would translate into greater political stability and development for the people of Bakori and the wider Funtua Zone.
