KATSINA — Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has urged graduates of the Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management to become job creators rather than job seekers, as the institution held its maiden combined convocation ceremony.
The governor gave the charge on Saturday while addressing 1,731 graduands from eight academic sets spanning 2016 to 2024, describing the institute as a key driver of digital transformation and skills development in the state.
Radda commended the institution’s growth and resilience, noting that its focus on technology, innovation, and vocational training positions it as a bridge between education and industry.
“In an era driven by digital transformation, institutions like KSITM are crucial in equipping our youth with relevant skills for the modern economy,” he said.
He described the institute as a “beacon of hope” preparing young people to compete globally, while calling on the graduands to apply their knowledge and contribute meaningfully to society.
The governor also emphasised the importance of education as a foundation for sustainable development and urged stakeholders to support institutions promoting innovation and entrepreneurship.

The ceremony featured a pre-convocation lecture delivered by Isah Ali Pantami, while fellowship awards were conferred on Governor Radda, former governors Ibrahim Shehu Shema and Aminu Bello Masari, as well as Ibrahim Kabir Masari.
Earlier, the Rector of the institute, Musa Ahmed Zayyad, attributed the institution’s progress to the support of the state government, highlighting investments in infrastructure, staff recruitment, programme accreditation, and ICT development.

He disclosed that the government facilitated the institute’s connection to the national grid for the first time, funded renovations and equipment procurement, and supported the training of over 1,800 civil servants in ICT skills.
Zayyad, however, appealed for additional support, including increased non-academic staff and provision of utility vehicles such as a student bus and ambulance to meet the growing needs of the institution.
The event marked a significant milestone in the institute’s history, underscoring its expanding role in manpower development in Katsina State and beyond.
