The National Association of Bakori Local Government Students (NABALS) has organized a Girls Child Initiative programme to honour the contributions of women and promote girl-child education in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The event, held on Sunday at the Government Day Bakori Multipurpose Hall, was themed “The Legacy of Our Mothers; A Blueprint for the Future.”

Speaking as the Special Guest, the Board Chairman of Katsina State Radio and Television Services, Alhaji Ahmad Abdulkadir Bakori, emphasized the critical role of mothers in shaping society through their sacrifices, resilience, and strong sense of purpose.
He noted that women in Bakori had made significant contributions to education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship, often under challenging conditions, thereby laying a solid foundation for future generations.
Drawing from personal experience, Abdulkadir shared the story of his aunt, Hajiya Indo Muhammad, who pursued her secondary education at Queen’s College, Ilorin, and later graduated with outstanding results from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. She went on to earn two Master’s degrees and served as a commissioner in Katsina State, as well as principal of Federal Government Girls Colleges in Bakori and Zaria.
He said her achievements inspired him to invest in the education of his daughters, revealing that he currently has seven graduates and two undergraduates among his children, with five of the graduates being female, including a medical doctor and a lawyer.
“When you educate a girl, you empower a family, strengthen a community, and secure the future,” he stated, urging parents and community leaders to prioritize girl-child education.
In his remarks, the Patron of the association and Katsina State Commissioner of Livestock Development, Professor Ahmad Muhammad Bakori, called for greater recognition of women who quietly contribute to the development of the girl child within their homes, particularly married women whose efforts often go unnoticed. He was represented at the event by Kabir Ayuba.

In her welcome address, Ladidi Yahaya Bakori, popularly known as LYB, a retired teacher, highlighted the importance of sustaining efforts to promote girls’ education in the area. She noted that her career was dedicated to advancing girl-child education in Bakori.

Also speaking, Sadiya Dauda Mani, a former Acting Education Secretary of the Bakori Local Education Authority, shared her personal life journey, describing it as a testament to the transformative power of education for the girl child.
Several individuals who contributed to the development of education in the area were honoured with awards at the event. Among them was Hajiya Indo Muhammad, the retired educationist, whose career has inspired many.
The wife of the Special Guest, Hajiya Indo Umar Radda, was also recognized for her contributions as a teacher in several primary schools across Bakori Local Government Area. Although she was unable to attend the event, she sent a donation to support the association.
Interestingly, Ladidi Yahaya, Sadiya Dauda Mani, and Indo Umar Radda were former schoolmates at the then Women Teachers’ College, Kabomo, and were all students of Alhaji Ahmad Abdulkadir.
Other notable contributions came from aspirants for the Katsina State House of Assembly under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Engr. Abdurrahman Ahmad Kandarawa and Ibrahim Haruna Dan Alkali, who made donations through their representatives.
The event attracted students, education stakeholders, and community members, and was widely described as a significant step toward promoting girl-child education and preserving the legacy of women in Bakori.
