Three Suspected Bandits Killed in Katsina as Security Forces Intensify Operations

-

Security operatives have neutralised three suspected bandits and recovered four motorcycles during an operation at Dawan-La’ila along the Bakori–Guga Road in Katsina State, in what residents describe as a sign of renewed tactical efforts by security agencies.

The incident, which occurred on Monday evening, comes amid growing concerns over the durability of a peace deal earlier brokered between local authorities, community leaders and armed groups in Bakori Local Government Area.

Sources told our correspondent that the suspected bandits were later retrieved by their associates, who reportedly returned to the scene and took away the bodies after the confrontation.

The peace agreement, introduced months ago to reduce violence and restore calm, initially led to a decline in kidnappings and facilitated the release of several abductees. However, residents say other forms of criminal activity have persisted, including frequent attacks on commuters, robbery, and cattle rustling along the Bakori–Guga axis.

Local sources also recalled that a number of fatalities have been recorded since the peace deal took effect. Among the victims were three police officers who were killed in an earlier attack, during which their patrol vehicle was reportedly set ablaze and their service weapons taken.

Despite these concerns, residents note that recent actions by security personnel suggest a shift in strategy, with more proactive engagements aimed at confronting armed groups. The latest operation, which led to the killing of three suspected bandits, is being seen as part of efforts to curb the recurring attacks and reinforce security presence in the area.

Community members have welcomed the renewed approach but continue to call for sustained operations and a review of the peace framework to ensure long-term stability.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from security agencies regarding the latest development.
