Kayalwa Primary School Alumni Reunite After 46 Years, Honour Distinguished Members

KATSINA — In a historic and emotional gathering, alumni of Kayalwa Primary School (1974–1980 set) convened for their first-ever reunion, 46 years after graduation, celebrating shared memories, achievements, and enduring bonds.

The event, held at the premises of the school in Katsina, drew a large turnout of former students alongside some of their past teachers, marking a significant milestone in the association’s history.

The reunion featured the recognition and honouring of members who have made notable strides in their respective careers, including those who recently retired from public service, earned promotions, and others who received special recognition awards.

Among those honoured for meritorious service and retirement were Brigadier General A.K. Lawal (rtd), Abdulkadir Hamza, former Director of Administration at Katsina State Television (KTTV), and Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Keegan, former Secretary of the Katsina State Transport Authority (KTSTA). Others include Abdullahi Ibrahim, a retired Assistant Director with the Department of State Services, and Idris Magaji Saulawa, a retired Superintendent of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Prominent members recognised for career advancements include Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ghana, Shehu Ilu Barde; the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori of Kano State Command; the North-West Zonal Director of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Aliyu Shehu Kafindangi; and Muhammad Idris Ingawa, Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service overseeing Borno and Yobe States.

Additional honourees included Deputy Comptroller of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Abdu Mamman Saulawa, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Shafa’atu Usman Audi. Special recognition awards were presented to Hussaini Kasim, Umar Isiyaku Ogunse, Rakiya Danladi, Umar Shantali, Mannir Danjuma (Main Bakin Mai), and Dani Babande (welder), among others.

The reunion also witnessed the presence of former teachers, including Hamisu Gambo, Malam Hafizu Kofar Bai, and Hajiya Sahaibe Mammam Ancigile, whose attendance added a nostalgic touch to the occasion.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Alumni Association, Alhaji Muntari Zubairu, expressed delight over the unity and cooperation among members. He noted the progress achieved under his leadership and called for sustained commitment to mutual support, patience, and collective growth.

Delivering remarks on behalf of the award recipients, Aliyu Shehu Kafindangi expressed appreciation for the recognition and pledged continued dedication to upholding the image of the association, Katsina State, and Nigeria.

Also speaking, Hamisu Gambo, representing the former teachers, commended the alumni for their unity and assured them of his continued support, adding that he remains available to offer guidance whenever needed.

In his closing remarks, Chairman of the Advisory Committee, Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Keegan, thanked members for their commitment and urged them to remain law-abiding while drawing wisdom from their predecessors. He also offered prayers for the continued success and prosperity of all members.

The event was attended by the current head of Kayalwa Primary School, alongside a large number of alumni, marking a memorable reunion decades in the making.
