12 Killed in Kano–Katsina Highway Crash as Governor Radda Mourns Victims

-

Governor of Dikko Umaru Radda has expressed deep sorrow over a tragic road accident along the Kano–Katsina Highway that claimed the lives of 12 people.

The fatal crash occurred at Gidan Mutum Daya around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday and involved a head-on collision between a trailer and a vehicle operating under a Public–Private Partnership arrangement with the Katsina State Transport Authority.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, six victims, including the driver, died instantly at the scene, while six others later died at the hospital.

Two injured victims are currently receiving treatment at Katsina General Hospital, while five others with minor injuries have been treated and discharged.

Governor Radda described the incident as devastating and painful, saying the state had lost valuable citizens under tragic circumstances.

He noted that the accident occurred during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, a sacred period in Islam, which made the loss even more heartbreaking for the bereaved families and the Muslim community.

“We have lost precious lives in a heartbreaking and unfortunate circumstance. This tragedy is a painful reminder of the fragility of life and has plunged our state into mourning,” the governor stated.

The governor prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and grant them Al-Jannah Firdaus, while also praying for strength and patience for their families.

He further urged motorists to exercise caution and strictly observe road safety regulations to prevent future tragedies on the highways.

Governor Radda also extended condolences on behalf of the government and people of Katsina State to the bereaved families, the management and staff of the Katsina State Transport Authority, and all those affected by the accident.
