Katsina THISDAY Correspondent Donates ₦50,000 to Support Ramadan Feeding of the Poor

-

A correspondent of THISDAY Newspaper in Katsina State, Sardauna Francis, has donated ₦50,000 to support the feeding of the needy during the holy month of Ramadan, in a gesture widely praised as a boost to interfaith harmony in the state.

Francis, a Christian and active member of a prominent Katsina-based WhatsApp group comprising leading figures across religious and professional lines, was said to have been moved to contribute after watching a video clip showing food distribution to fasting Muslims.

The group, created by veteran journalist and publisher of Katsina Times, Muhammad Danjuma Katsina, has for several years coordinated Ramadan interventions aimed at supporting vulnerable residents. Members annually pool resources to provide iftar meals for the poor and assist in securing the release of inmates jailed over unpaid fines or debts, excluding those convicted of criminal offences.

In a message shared with members, Danjuma Katsina commended Francis for his donation, noting that the journalist was touched by the day’s outreach video and had also pledged to write a special report to encourage others to emulate the initiative.

The ₦50,000 contribution was confirmed in the group shortly after it was made, drawing praise from members who described the act as a demonstration of compassion beyond religious lines.

Observers say the development underscores the spirit of unity in Katsina, where Muslims and Christians continue to collaborate on humanitarian causes, particularly during religious seasons. Francis’ gesture has been described as a reminder of the role media professionals and community leaders can play in fostering social cohesion and promoting charitable giving.
