Banditry Persists Along Guga–Bakori Road Despite Peace Deal

-

Despite an existing peace arrangement aimed at curbing insecurity, banditry activities are reportedly continuing in parts of Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, raising concerns among residents.

In a statement shared by a local resident, Mahadi Danbinta Guga, an incident was reported on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at about 8:00 p.m., when suspected armed bandits allegedly blocked the Guga–Bakori Road between Unguwar Alhaji Bello and Guga. According to the account, travellers were robbed of their belongings, motorcycles were taken, and several people sustained serious injuries.

The injured victims were said to be receiving treatment at the Guga Primary Health Care Centre. The report noted that such incidents have become frequent in the area, even though the intensity of attacks is believed to have reduced following interventions by relevant authorities.

Mahadi Danbinta Guga acknowledged the efforts of security agencies and local authorities in reducing the severity of attacks but called for increased vigilance and renewed strategies to strengthen the peace accord and achieve more lasting security.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from security agencies regarding the incident. Residents continue to urge authorities to intensify measures to safeguard lives and property along the affected routes.
