Katsina Education Commissioner Inaugurates Committee to Commission Radda Special Model Secondary School

The Katsina State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hon. Yusuf Sulaiman Jibia, has inaugurated a high-level committee to coordinate the commissioning and academic take-off of the newly constructed Radda Special Model Secondary School.

The committee was inaugurated during a meeting held at the commissioner’s office, where Hon. Jibia formally welcomed members and outlined their mandate, objectives and terms of reference.

Speaking at the event, the commissioner said the establishment of Special Model Schools across the state aligns with Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda’s Building Your Future Agenda, which places education reform and innovation at the centre of development efforts. He disclosed that three Special Model Schools are currently under development in Katsina State, with the Radda school fully completed and ready for commissioning.

Hon. Jibia explained that the committee is expected to ensure seamless preparations for the formal opening of the school and the commencement of academic activities. According to him, the Model Schools are designed to provide safe, modern and technology-driven learning environments capable of promoting academic excellence and positive social development.

The committee is chaired by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Hon. Nura Sani Katsayel, with the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Ummulkhairi Ahmed Bawa, serving as co-chairman. Other members include the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Kabir Magaji; Chairman of the Teachers’ Service Board (TSB), Alhaji Sada Muhammad Sada; Executive Secretary of the Science  and Technical Education Board (STEB), Prof. Kabir Matazu; senior officials of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, representatives of Hallmark Consultancy Firm, the AGILE Programme coordinator, and other key stakeholders. Aminu Lawal Galadanchi, Assistant Director, Special Model Schools, will serve as secretary to the committee.

According to the commissioner, the committee’s responsibilities include coordinating preparatory activities for the commissioning, conducting final inspections and handover from contractors, developing operational and academic take-off plans, overseeing staff recruitment and orientation, and supervising procurement and installation of equipment, learning materials and ICT facilities.

Other key assignments include coordinating admissions and community sensitisation, ensuring functionality of power, water, fire and security systems, providing adequate publicity for the commissioning ceremony, developing a detailed start-up timeline, identifying procurement needs such as uniforms and bedding materials, and securing outstanding government approvals necessary for smooth take-off.

Hon. Jibia directed the committee to commence work immediately and conclude its assignment within two weeks, stressing strict compliance with safety and security requirements to protect staff, students and school facilities.

He urged members to remain committed, proactive and result-oriented, expressing confidence that the committee would deliver a smooth and successful commissioning of the school as a centre of academic excellence.
