Governor Radda Inaugurates Katsina State Council of Emirates

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has inaugurated the Katsina State Council of Emirates, describing the move as a historic step toward strengthening collaboration between the state government and traditional institutions.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at the Government House in Katsina, Governor Radda said the establishment of the Council would deepen cooperation with traditional rulers and enhance their role in governance and community development across the state.

The Governor announced that the Emir of Katsina will serve as Chairman of the Council, while the Emir of Daura will serve as Co-Chairman. He said the Council’s membership includes key kingmakers from the Katsina Emirate Council—namely the Kauran Katsina, Yandakan Katsina, Galadiman Katsina, Durbin Katsina and Marusan Katsina—as well as members of the Daura Emirate Council, including the Galadima of Daura, Kauran Daura, Limamin Juma’a, Dansawai and the Fada Babba of Daura.

Governor Radda added that the Secretary to the Government of the State is a member of the Council, alongside Ambassador Ahmed Rufai, Sardaunan Katsina; Ambassador Adamu Saeed Daura; and Alhaji Hamza Abu Duwan, Madawakin Katsina.

According to him, the Council also comprises representatives from the business community, religious leaders and youth groups. These include Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal, Alhaji Baba Buhari, Walin Daura; Sheikh Yakubu Musa Hassan; Sheikh Naziru Kofar Baru of Daura; and Abdulaziz Abdulaziz Malunfashi. Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Ida, Wazirin Katsina, will serve as Secretary of the Council, with Sada Salisu Danwairen Katsina as Assistant Secretary.

The Governor explained that the Council is expected to advise the state government on issues relating to Islamic law, customary law, culture, chieftaincy affairs and inter-communal relations, as well as provide guidance on public order, peace and security when required.

He noted that the Council will also support government efforts in community development, assist tax authorities, promote environmental protection and forest conservation, supervise sanitation activities, and help in preserving the state’s cultural heritage and traditional values.

Governor Radda congratulated members of the Council on their appointment and urged them to discharge their responsibilities with dedication in the interest of peace, unity and development of the state.

Dignitaries at the event included the Secretary to the Katsina State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari; the Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Abubakar Danladi; the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir; the Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, Abdullahi Aliyu Turaji; and members of the Katsina State Executive Council.
