The nationwide strike declared by the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) has gained further momentum as the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP) has directed all its members across Federal Health Institutions (FHIs) to fully join the indefinite industrial action beginning 00:00 hours, 15 November 2025.
In an official circular dated 14 November 2025 and signed by NUAHP General Secretary, Comrade Martin Egbanubi, the union reaffirmed its commitment to the JOHESU-led action, citing the Federal Government’s failure to meet long-outstanding demands despite the expiration of the earlier 15-day strike ultimatum.
The circular referenced an earlier mobilisation directive titled “Notice of Fifteen (15) Days Strike Ultimatum on JOHESU Outstanding Demands”, in which members were instructed to prepare for a possible national shutdown if negotiations collapsed.
According to NUAHP, the decision to activate a full strike was approved by the union’s National Executive Council (NEC), with the Union President, Comrade (Pharm.) Kamal Alhassan Ibrahim, issuing the final order for all professionals under the union to withdraw services indefinitely.
NUAHP represents a wide range of critical health workers including:
Pharmacists, Physiotherapists, Medical Laboratory Scientists, Radiographers, Medical Social Workers, Optometrists, Clinical Psychologists, Speech Therapists, Medical Physicists, EEG/ECG Specialists, Dental Technologists, Occupational Therapists, Health Information Management Practitioners, Dieticians, among others.
The directive instructs all State Councils and Unit Branches to officially notify their respective Chief Executive Officers using their official letterheads, marking the formal commencement of the action.
The union also ordered the immediate formation of monitoring teams across all branches to track compliance, with reports to be submitted via established internal communication channels.
NUAHP noted that state-owned health institutions with pending trade disputes are expected to issue their own strike notices to their employers—but must join the action “appropriately” once due process is completed.
Additionally, leaders at all levels were instructed to intensify media engagements using the text of the JOHESU press conference, which outlined grievances including the long-delayed adjustment of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS), dating back to 2014.
With NUAHP — one of the largest affiliates of JOHESU — now fully on board, health services across federal hospitals, specialist centres, and some state facilities are expected to face major disruptions.
As of press time, the Federal Ministry of Health had not released an official statement in response to the expanded strike.
