KATSINA — Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has commissioned the upgraded Matazu Semi-Urban Water Supply Scheme, featuring 17 wells, a 350,000-litre ground storage tank and solar-powered facilities.
Commissioning the project in Matazu Local Government Area on Wednesday, Radda said the upgrade was aimed at expanding access to safe and reliable water for residents of the area and surrounding communities.

The governor recalled that the scheme was originally established in 1996, saying the state government had upgraded the facility to increase its production and distribution capacity.
He said the scheme now comprises 17 wells, while its ground storage tank has a capacity of about 350,000 litres and the elevated tank approximately 15,000 litres.
Radda said the installation of solar-powered facilities would reduce dependence on public electricity supply and improve the reliability of water production and distribution.
He said the investment, which runs into billions of naira, reflected the importance his administration attached to essential infrastructure and public services.
Radda urged residents and community leaders to take ownership of the facility and support the committee constituted to manage and monitor the scheme in collaboration with relevant government agencies.
“These are modern water facilities that require proper care and effective community monitoring. I therefore appeal to the people of Matazu to take ownership of this project and ensure that it continues to serve the community for many years to come,” he said.
The governor also assured the people that their requests, particularly those relating to infrastructure and development, would be considered by the state government.
He commended the Member representing Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency, Abdullahi Aliyu Ahmed, for his contributions to the development of the area, as well as members of the State House of Assembly representing Matazu.
Radda also commended residents for their cooperation with the government and contributions to efforts to improve security in the area.

Mannir Ayuba Sullubawa
The Commissioner for Water Resources, Mannir Ayuba Sullubawa, said the project was part of the state government’s broader programme to expand and rehabilitate water infrastructure.
Sullubawa disclosed that nearly eight locations had been selected for water works projects under the administration’s programme.
The District Head of Matazu, Alhaji Iro Maikano, commended the government for upgrading the scheme and appealed to the governor to consider construction of the Gwarjo-Mazoji road.
