FRESH ATTACKS REPORTED IN BAKORI COMMUNITIES DESPITE RECENT PEACE EFFORTS-Residents Call for Strengthened Security as Tension Rises Around Guga Axis

-

Bakori, Katsina State – November 4, 2025

Fresh security concerns have emerged in parts of Bakori Local Government Area following reports of renewed bandit attacks on rural communities less than a month after a local peace agreement was reached in the area.

According to community sources, Doguwar Dorawa, a settlement located south of Guga, was attacked on Tuesday, November 4, resulting in the death of two respected elderly residents identified as Alhaji Bishir and Alhaji Surajo. One other person was said to have sustained injuries and was receiving treatment at the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Guga.

Several residents were reportedly abducted during the incident, while many others fled their homes for safety.

In a separate occurrence, another nearby settlement, Layin ’Yannehu, was also reportedly attacked, during which livestock were rustled.

A local leader, Mahdi Danbinta Guga, who shared details of the incident on his verified Facebook page, described the situation as “deeply distressing” and called for urgent intervention to protect rural communities.

“Doguwar Dorawa, a settlement south of Guga, came under gruesome attack. Two most influential elderly people in the community, Alhaji Bishir and his brother Alhaji Surajo, were killed. One person was injured and is currently at PHC Guga, while several others were kidnapped as residents watched helplessly from a distance,” he wrote.

He added that another community, Layin ’Yannehu, was also attacked and animals were rustled. “We are now desperately trying to protect Guga town,” he stated, ending his post with the prayer, “Allah ka iya mana.”

The latest incidents have raised concerns about the fragility of the peace initiative facilitated among neighbouring communities and local authorities less than a month ago.

Residents have appealed to security agencies to intensify patrols and sustain the peace efforts to prevent further violence and displacement.
