President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose second and final tenure expires on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was announced on Wednesday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Professor Aina, who will turn 40 in July, is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University and is regarded as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors in the field of computer engineering.
According to the Presidency, the new JAMB registrar possesses extensive experience in examination systems, digital infrastructure and public sector institutional reforms.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
The Presidency noted that Aina first worked with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained experience in admissions administration and data-driven institutional processes.
Over the last 15 years, he has worked at the intersection of technology, education policy and institutional reform, advising federal and state governments on digital transition, systems design and operational efficiency.
He has also consulted for examination bodies including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), focusing on ICT systems, examination integrity and digital process optimisation.
Professor Aina is a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the incoming registrar would build on the achievements of Professor Oloyede and further strengthen the operations of JAMB through innovation, experience and institutional reforms.
