KATSINA — Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has commissioned the multi-million naira Radda Model Secondary School in Katsina, describing it as a major investment in the future of education.

The project, executed by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda under his “Building Your Future” agenda, is designed as a technology-driven institution aimed at preparing students for global competitiveness.

Speaking at the inauguration, Radda said the initiative fulfils a vision he conceived over three decades ago to establish smart schools that combine modern infrastructure with innovative learning.

“This is not just about buildings; it is about shaping minds and preparing a generation that will compete globally,” he said.

The governor explained that the school is fully equipped with science laboratories, ICT facilities, digital learning tools, 24-hour internet access, stable electricity, libraries, sports facilities, and boarding accommodation for students and teachers.

He added that the institution is structured to expose students to emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, coding, and digital governance, while admissions were strictly merit-based across all 34 local government areas.

Radda also highlighted broader investments in the education sector, including the recruitment of over 7,000 teachers, training of more than 18,000 educators, distribution of laptops to teachers, and scholarships worth over ₦7 billion for students.

In his remarks, Abdulrazaq described the school as a landmark achievement, stressing that it represents a deliberate investment in human capital development and should be supported by effective teaching and proper maintenance.

He called on stakeholders, including parents and community leaders, to take ownership of the facility, while encouraging students to maximise the opportunity.

Similarly, Minister of Education, Maruf Olatunji Alausa, said the project aligns with the Federal Government’s education reform agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He described the school as a model for educational transformation in Nigeria, noting that it reflects a long-term vision focused on expanding access, improving quality, and strengthening digital learning.

Commissioner for Education, Yusuf Suleiman Jibia, said the project represents a significant milestone in the state’s reform efforts, while education consultant Zainab Bugaje Jika disclosed that staff recruitment and student admission were conducted through transparent and merit-based processes.

The event was attended by top government officials, lawmakers, traditional rulers, and stakeholders in the education sector.
