Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has launched the 2026 fertiliser sales and distribution programme, announcing that subsidised inputs will be supplied across 6,652 polling units to support farmers ahead of the rainy season.
The governor, who flagged off the programme in Malumfashi Local Government Area on Monday, said fertiliser would be sold at ₦25,000 per bag as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity and ensure food security.
He explained that the distribution would be decentralised to ensure direct access for farmers, with polling units in Funtua Zone receiving 60 bags each, Katsina Zone 50 bags, and Daura Zone 45 bags. In addition, 10 large-scale farmers in each ward will receive 10 bags each to scale up production.
According to him, the system is designed to eliminate middlemen, reduce diversion, and ensure that inputs reach genuine farmers.
Governor Radda said the fertiliser initiative is part of a broader agricultural strategy that includes mechanisation, irrigation expansion, and youth empowerment. He disclosed that over 3,000 tube wells are being drilled to support irrigation farming, while thousands of water pumps, tillers, and other inputs have been distributed across the state.
He added that 361 youths are currently undergoing training in modern farming, agro-processing, and agribusiness to drive long-term transformation in the sector.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Lawal Aliyu Shargalle, described the intervention as part of a sustained effort to revitalise agriculture, noting that farmers have consistently received fertiliser support since the inception of the administration.
He said the ministry is working closely with the Community Development Programme (CDP) to ensure transparency and accountability in the distribution process, including tracking supplies and submitting regular reports.
Also speaking, the CDP Coordinator, Kamaludden Kabir, commended the government’s investment in agriculture, noting that interventions such as irrigation pumps and hand-powered tillers have made farming more accessible, especially in rural communities.
Chairman of Malumfashi Local Government, Muntari Abdullahi, praised the timely rollout of subsidised inputs and other development initiatives, saying they have positively impacted livelihoods in the area.
The launch event was attended by senior government officials, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders.
