Katsina Signs Deal to Drive Funtua Inland Dry Port Development

-

The Katsina State Government has signed a shareholders’ agreement establishing FIDP Limited, a special purpose vehicle to oversee the development and operation of the Funtua Inland Dry Port.

The agreement formalises the state’s investment in the project and sets out a governance framework aimed at unlocking trade, logistics, and industrial opportunities across Katsina and the wider North-West region.

The Managing Director of the Katsina State Investment and Property Development Company (KIPDECO), Musbahu Alkali, signed on behalf of the state government, describing the development as a major milestone for the state’s economy.

He said the agreement provides the institutional structure needed to attract investors and scale operations at the inland dry port, positioning it as a key regional trade hub.

According to him, the initiative is expected to boost job creation, increase cargo movement, and reduce transportation costs for agricultural produce and manufactured goods.

Chairman of FIDP Limited, Umaru Mutallab, signed on behalf of the project sponsors and reaffirmed the private sector’s commitment to delivering the required infrastructure and services.

He noted that the dry port would provide manufacturers, traders, and farmers with easier access to port services closer to production centres, reducing pressure on congested seaports and strengthening Katsina’s position in regional trade.

The project is considered a key economic initiative under Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, aimed at attracting private investment and expanding the state’s economic base.
