FG Hands Over 200 Housing Units to Kwara Government After Full Payment

-

The Federal Government has handed over 200 semi-detached housing units under the National Housing Programme (NHP) to the Kwara State Government following the settlement of all financial obligations for the estate.

The housing estate, located in Ogbondoroko in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State, was formally transferred by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development on April 17, 2026.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, who was represented at the event by the Director of Public Buildings, Arc. Musa Abdullahi, described the handover as a major milestone in efforts to expand access to affordable housing and strengthen collaboration with state governments.

“This handover underscores the Federal Government’s resolve to bridge the housing deficit through the National Housing Programme, while fostering strong partnerships with state governments to deliver affordable homes to Nigerians,” he said.

The Minister added that affordable housing remains a key priority of the Federal Government, not only to address housing shortages but also to generate employment and stimulate economic growth.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Shuaib Belgore, represented by Dr. Nasamu Yakub, commended the Kwara State Government for promptly meeting its financial obligations, which made the transfer possible.

Receiving the units on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Segun Ogunsola, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and assured that the estate would be effectively utilised.

“The Kwara State Government appreciates the Federal Government for this laudable initiative. We assure that these housing units will be effectively managed and allocated to improve the living conditions of our people,” he said.

Other officials present at the event included the Federal Controller of Housing in Kwara State, Arc. Ganiyu Shonibare, and other stakeholders.

The Ministry reiterated its commitment to expanding access to decent and affordable housing nationwide through sustained implementation of housing programmes and partnerships with subnational governments.
