The management of Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) has sought the support of the Katsina State Government to address pressing challenges of security, transportation and infrastructure at the institution’s main campus.
The Vice-Chancellor, Mohammed Khalid Othman, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Mu’azu Dan-Musa, in Katsina.
Prof. Othman said the university was intensifying efforts to improve the academic environment and ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff, especially as most academic and administrative activities are being relocated to the main campus.
He acknowledged the state government’s investment of billions of naira in infrastructural projects within the university, including the construction of a new Senate building, faculty buildings, lecture theatres, classrooms, office complexes, a library, as well as directorates, centres and laboratories.
Despite the progress, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted key challenges requiring urgent attention, particularly the lack of internal road networks and drainage systems at the main campus.
According to him, the loamy nature of the soil in the area makes movement difficult for vehicles, thereby affecting access between faculties and other facilities.
He also stressed the need for improved transportation services to facilitate the movement of students and staff to and from the main campus, calling on the state government and other stakeholders to provide support.
On security, Prof. Othman emphasised the importance of strengthening measures on campus to create a conducive atmosphere for teaching, learning and research, urging relevant authorities to assist in safeguarding lives and property within the university.
Responding, Dr. Dan-Musa described the visit as timely, noting that the ministry was already developing strategies to tackle security challenges across the state.
He assured the university management of the government’s commitment to addressing security concerns and supporting initiatives that would enhance safety and development within tertiary institutions in the state.
The meeting is part of ongoing efforts by the university to build strategic partnerships aimed at improving infrastructure and overall service delivery at the institution.
