-

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has received a delegation of 17 foreign diplomats who arrived in Katsina State to witness the 2026 Durbar Festival in Katsina and Daura Emirates.

The delegation, led by the Ambassador of Belgium, Pieter Leenknegt, was welcomed at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport, where the governor was joined by his deputy, Faruk Lawal Jobe.

Other members of the delegation included ambassadors and representatives from Egypt, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Switzerland, Slovakia, Argentina, and Congo, alongside officials from international organisations and the private sector.

Following their arrival, Governor Radda led the diplomats to the palace of the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, where they began observing Durbar activities shortly after the Emir’s return from the Eid prayer ground.

The visit forms part of events lined up for the 2026 Durbar Festival, a major cultural celebration that highlights the traditions and heritage of the people of Katsina State. The delegation is expected to attend the grand Durbar at the Old Government House in Katsina before proceeding to Daura to witness the renowned Daura Emirate Durbar.

Speaking on the significance of the visit, Governor Radda described the presence of the diplomats as evidence of growing international interest in the state’s cultural heritage. He noted that the Durbar festival symbolises unity, peace, and the identity of the people, while also serving as a platform for cultural exchange.

The governor expressed optimism that the visit would strengthen diplomatic ties and position Katsina as a viable destination for cultural tourism and international partnerships. He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to preserving cultural values while promoting peace and development.

The Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, and members of the State Executive Council were also in attendance.

The statement was issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, on March 20, 2026.
