FG Declares March 19 and 20 Public Holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr

-

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr celebration.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government, according to a statement issued on Monday.

Eid-ul-Fitr, a major Islamic festival observed by Muslims worldwide, signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

In the statement, the minister congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast and urged them to uphold the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice practiced during the period.

He also called on Nigerians to use the festive season to pray for the nation’s peace, unity, and continued progress.

While wishing Muslims a joyful celebration, the minister advised citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence across the country.

The statement was signed by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.
