The Senate of Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) has approved the rustication of 20 students for various forms of examination misconduct.
The decision was taken during the 138th Regular Senate Meeting of the university held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the Twin-Theatre of the institution’s main campus.
Chairman of the Senate and Vice-Chancellor, Mohammed Khalid Othman, said the affected students were found guilty by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee and will serve the rustication beginning from the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic session.
According to him, the action was taken in line with Section 13.3, subsection 13.3(c) of the university’s policy on examination irregularities and academic misconduct.
Prof. Othman commended members of the disciplinary committee for their commitment to upholding the institution’s rules and ensuring due process, fairness, firmness and justice in handling the cases.
He noted that the decision of the Senate was intended to send a clear signal to students on the need to comply with the university’s regulations governing examinations.
The Vice-Chancellor added that all the affected students were given the opportunity to appear before the committee to defend themselves before the final decision was taken.
The students sanctioned were drawn from several faculties including Engineering, Computing, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Education, Life Sciences and Social Sciences.
Meanwhile, the Senate has also directed the strict enforcement of the university’s academic policy requiring students to attain at least 75 percent lecture attendance before being eligible to sit for examinations.
The directive was also taken during the same Senate meeting.
Prof. Othman urged students to strictly comply with the policy and other academic requirements prescribed by the Senate in order to excel in their studies.
Section 12.05(b) of the university’s academic policy stipulates that students must satisfy the minimum 75 percent lecture attendance requirement before they can qualify to write university examinations.
The university authorities said the enforcement of the rule is aimed at encouraging students to take lecture attendance seriously and improve overall academic performance.
