Katsina Governor Approves Relocation Allowance for 549 Teachers Redeployed to Rural Schools

-

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has approved the payment of a one-off relocation allowance to 549 teachers redeployed to rural community primary schools across Katsina State under the Transforming Education System at State Level (TESS) Project.

The development was disclosed in a press release issued by Bashir Ya’u, Media Assistant to the Katsina State Governor at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

According to the statement, the payment is tied to the Teachers’ Redeployment Policy introduced under the TESS Project to address the imbalance in teacher distribution, particularly the concentration of teachers in urban centres and the shortage of qualified personnel in rural communities.

In collaboration with the Katsina State Universal Basic Education Board, the 549 teachers were reassigned to primary schools experiencing acute staffing gaps in rural areas.

The approved payment represents a one-off transport allowance to support the affected teachers in relocating to their new duty posts. The ministry clarified that the allowance is not a general rural incentive for all teachers but applies strictly to those redeployed under the policy framework.

The statement noted that the approval underscores the administration’s commitment to improving teachers’ welfare and strengthening the delivery of quality basic education, especially in underserved rural communities.
