The All Progressives Congress (APC) has completed the first phase of its internal party elections at the ward level across all 361 wards in Katsina State.
The Chairman of the State Planning Committee and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the Government House Press Centre after leading the reception of national committees deployed to conduct and monitor the elections.

Nasir said the state planning committee provided all necessary logistical support to ensure the ward congresses were conducted peacefully, transparently, and in an orderly manner across the state. He described the successful exercise as a reflection of the commitment of party leaders and members to internal democracy and unity.
Speaking separately, Chairman of the Screening Committee for Ward and Local Government Elections, Bashir Ibrahim, said his committee screened all aspirants who appeared before it, verifying their credentials and eligibility in line with party guidelines. He added that the committee would compile its report and forward it to the party’s national leadership.
Also addressing reporters, Chairman of the Appeals Committee on Screening, Jamil Uwais Zakari, stated that his committee was mandated to receive and review complaints arising from the screening process. He noted that no petitions had been received so far, describing the development as an indication that the process was conducted fairly and peacefully. Zakari commended the state party leadership and the Katsina State Government for their support in ensuring the success of the exercise.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Ward and Local Government Congress Committee, Yakubu Bello Bashir, announced that local government congresses would be held simultaneously across the 34 local government areas of the state. He assured party members that the elections would be conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner, urging them to continue cooperating with party officials.
In the same vein, Chairman of the Ward Appeals Committee, Sadiq Muhammad Ali, revealed that two telephone lines had been made available for party members to lodge complaints. He emphasized that all petitions must be submitted in writing within 48 hours after the conduct of the elections in accordance with party regulations.
Ali further stated that aggrieved members could submit complaints regarding the ward leadership elections from Friday, February 20, 2026, to Saturday, February 21, 2026, by 10:00 a.m., after which the committee would close the window for receiving petitions.
The successful conclusion of the ward congresses marks a significant milestone in the APC’s internal electoral process in Katsina State, paving the way for the forthcoming local government congresses and reinforcing the party’s commitment to due process, transparency, and adherence to its constitutional guidelines.
