Tinubu to Perform Groundbreaking for 500,000-Unit Mega Renewed Hope City in FCT–Nasarawa Corridor

-

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to perform the foundation-laying ceremony for a 500,000-housing-unit Mega Renewed Hope City in the FCT–Nasarawa urban corridor, in what officials describe as one of the largest master-planned housing developments in Nigeria’s history.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, disclosed this during an inspection visit to Aso-B in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, the proposed site for the project.

Spanning about 5,000 hectares and strategically located between Abuja and Nasarawa State, the Mega Renewed Hope City is designed as a modern, integrated urban district aimed at significantly expanding housing supply, strengthening infrastructure, stimulating economic activity and supporting the long-term spatial development strategy of the Federal Capital Territory.

The project sits within a key urban expansion corridor, sharing boundaries with NAF Valley, Nyanya, Guruku and the NHA Housing Scheme in Mpape. According to the Minister, the location aligns with the Federal Government’s strategy to decongest central Abuja while providing structured and sustainable residential and commercial alternatives through coordinated urban planning.

The master plan comprises six districts — Kabuso, Guruku, Yelwa, Gbagalape, A.A. Sule and Kudu — each expected to feature affordable and mixed-income housing, commercial and business hubs, schools and healthcare facilities, recreational and green areas, as well as integrated public utilities and modern infrastructure.

Dangiwa said the development would be delivered through a structured Public–Private Partnership framework involving key government institutions and private sector partners. Under the arrangement, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development will provide overall coordination and oversight, the Ministry of Finance will support financing, while the Ministry of Works will handle major road infrastructure.

He noted that the initiative aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its focus on expanding access to affordable housing, improving urban liveability, delivering climate-responsive infrastructure, creating jobs and promoting sustainable urban planning.

“This Mega Renewed Hope City represents a transformative step in structured urban expansion. It is about building inclusive, resilient, economically vibrant communities that will serve both present and future generations,” the Minister said.

He added that adequate compensation and stakeholder engagement would be ensured before full commencement of the project, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to fairness, transparency and community inclusion.

The planned groundbreaking ceremony is expected to mark a significant milestone in Nigeria’s housing and urban development drive, as the Federal Government moves to unlock new growth corridors and accelerate infrastructure delivery nationwide.
