Katsina | January 13, 2026

The Katsina State Government has commenced another phase in the construction of 30 newly approved Senior Secondary Schools across the state, with the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education completing site handover exercises in Jibia and Batsari Local Government Areas.

The exercise, approved by Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, is aimed at expanding access to post-basic education and addressing persistent overcrowding in existing secondary schools. The second day of the statewide site handover marked the formal transfer of project sites to contractors for immediate commencement of construction works.

In Jibia Local Government Area, two existing Junior Secondary Schools—Government Day Secondary School, Jibia, and Government Secondary School, Daddara—are to be upgraded and expanded to full Senior Secondary Schools. Speaking during the exercise, the Director of Works at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, QS Shamsudeen Hassan, explained that Jibia was allocated two schools due to rapid population growth and increased student enrolment. He noted that the projects are part of the governor’s broader plan to strengthen post-basic education and ensure equitable distribution of educational infrastructure.

The Member representing Jibia Local Government at the Katsina State House of Assembly, Hon. Mustapha Yusuf, said the approval followed sustained advocacy to address severe overcrowding in schools within the area. He commended Governor Radda for his prompt response to grassroots demands and his commitment to educational development.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Jibia Local Government, Hon. Surajo Ado, described the projects as a continuation of ongoing reforms in the education sector, recalling earlier renovations of primary and secondary schools in the area. He urged parents to take full advantage of the government’s investment by enrolling and retaining their children in school.

Traditional and community stakeholders, including officials of the Zonal Education Quality Assurance Office, School-Based Management Committees, and the District Head of Daddara, Alhaji Usman Nagogo Usman, also praised the initiative, describing the new Senior Secondary School in Daddara as a long-awaited development.

In Batsari Local Government Area, the site handover was conducted at Community Day Secondary School, Wagini, and Community Girls Secondary School, Tayoyi. The Chairman of the local government, Hon. Mannir Ma’azu Ruma, said the projects would significantly improve access to education, particularly for rural communities and female students. He expressed the appreciation of the people of Batsari to Governor Radda for prioritising education at the grassroots.

The ceremonies in both local government areas were attended by local government officials, members of the Katsina State House of Assembly, traditional leaders, education authorities, consultants, contractors, and other key stakeholders.

The successful completion of the site handover exercises paves the way for the immediate commencement of construction works, reaffirming the Katsina State Government’s resolve to strengthen the education sector and expand access to quality secondary education across the state.
